Students Entering Year 10

As you have enrolled out of our traditional enrolment period we need you to bypass our usual selection process and email your choices directly to us.  To make this as smooth as possible, please read ALL of the information below carefully before you get in touch with us.

Email your choices to: Lead Timetable Coordinator Vicki Young

Students in Year 10 study a mixture of core subjects and option subjects.

Core Subjects:

The core subjects that all students take are English, Health, Mathematics, Physical Education and Science.  You do not have to select these as part of this online process.

Option subjects. Students choose both:

● two half-year courses from Part A, the Social Science curriculum (plus a backup choice), AND

● six half-year courses from Part B, General Options from the wider curriculum areas (plus a backup choice)

Please note: Later in 2024, some students may be identified as needing additional Literacy and Numeracy courses to prepare for the compulsory NCEA Co-requisite Reading, Writing and Numeracy Assessments offered during 2025. If this occurs, students will only have 4 half-year options. In this case, we will endeavour to place students in their first four options selected.  You will be contacted in Term Four if you have been selected for either Year 10 Literacy Studies or Year 10 Numeracy in addition to the English and Maths core subjects.

Can't get enough of a particular subject?

You can make some options courses into full-year courses by choosing both the first half-year (semester) and the second half-year of the course.  For example, you can take Te Reo Māori for the whole year by selecting both Y10TERE1 in Semester 1 and Y10TERE2 in Semester 2.  It is important to note that all second-semester courses are a continuation of what is learned in the first semester, not a repetition of the same course.

Other examples:

Music Y10MUSP1 ⇒ Y10MUSP2

Dance Y10DANC1 ⇒ Y10DANC2

Drama Y10DRAM1 ⇒ Y10DRAM2
