Head of Faculty/Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Alino.
Recommended Prior LearningThis course is designed to meet the needs of students who have achieved at least 15 Achievement Standard credits from Level 1 Mathematics Achievement Standards, including AS91945 (1.2 Internal) (Use mathematical methods to explore problems that relate to life in Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific) and AS91947 (1.4 External) (Demonstrate mathematical reasoning).
A major emphasis of the course is on the development and application of Algebra and Graph skills. It extends work done in Level 1 Mathematics in topics such as Algebra and Geometry but also introduces Calculus for the first time.
It aims to prepare students for the study of Mathematics with Calculus at NCEA Level 3 and equip them with the skills to tackle a wider variety of problems in a number of subject areas.
What is taught in courses varies from year to year. This course could include:
2.1 AS91256 Apply coordinate geometry methods in solving problems
2.4 AS91259 Apply trigonometric relationships in solving problems
Term 2
2.2 AS91257 Apply graphical methods in solving problems
2.14 AS91269 Apply systems of equations in solving problems * Only if we got time *
Term 3
2.6 AS91261 Apply algebraic methods in solving problems
2.7 AS91262 Apply calculus methods in solving problems
Term 4
2.6 AS91261 Apply algebraic methods in solving problems
2.7 AS91262 Apply calculus methods in solving problems
Level 3 Mathematics with Applications, Level 3 Mathematics with Calculus, Level 3 Mathematics with Statistics
An understanding of Mathematics is important in business, commerce, and industry. Most employers regard Mathematics as an essential skill for employees to have.
