Level 3 Economics
Course Description

This course has a main focus on micro-economics which is a focus on a particular business/market rather than looking at the whole economy (macro-economics).
It looks at the individual and their behaviour, production decisions, business & government. The approach taken is to indicate these ideas through the use of graphical analysis and discussion.
Course Overview
What is taught in courses varies from year to year. This course could include:
Market equilibrium, marginal analysis, micro-economics concepts and government interventions.
Recommended Prior Learning
To be accepted for this course students must have earned NCEA Level 2 or have Commerce TIC (Teacher In Charge) approval.
If you took Year 12 Economics this will help you with this course with basic terminology, but it is not essential as in Year 13 we look at a different aspect of Economics. One of the externals is based on macro-economics, and students who did Year 12 economics will have a distinct advantage compared to those who didn't.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
1 x Ruler, 1 x Scientific Calculator. Workbooks provided. Potentially a Field Trip to Auckland which cost whānau $400 after significant fundraising from students.

Economics is an academic subject and complements a number of other disciplines.
Economics is one aspect of the Commerce umbrella and can lead to jobs like a financial analyst, government economic policy advisor, banking industry or an economic consultant.
Assessment Information
Students are able to gain 14 credits for UE by passing any of the 3 of the achievement standards.Credit Information
You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

Costs
The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2025, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
