Level 3 Classical Studies
Course Description

At level 3 of Classical Studies students develop skills that are required in tertiary study and in a range of different careers. These skills include independent research, source analysis, critical thinking and essay writing. The level 3 course focuses on the study of the Ancient Roman period, beginning with Alexander the Great and the end of the Hellenistic era to the height of the Roman Empire.
Course Overview
What is taught in courses varies from year to year. This course could include:
Topics covered would include Roman Art and Architecture, Alexander the Great, and Greek and Roman history. We also do an in-depth study into how the ancient world has influenced the modern world.
Recommended Prior Learning
It is possible to pick up this subject without having done Level 2 Classics.
To be accepted for this course students must have earned 14 credits in L2 Classical Studies, or L2 English, or L2 History or L2 Media Studies, or have HOF approval.

Device/laptop, refill, and binder/folder or exercise workbook, pens, highlighters.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

Costs
The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2025, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
