Level 2 Geography
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr S. Henson.
Geography focuses on the relationship between people and the environment. This is a practical, real-life course, which can lead onto Level 3 Geography and Tourism. It is also a subject that opens further careers beyond school as well as university study. In Geography this year, you will be working towards gaining 18 NCEA Level 2 credits for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA).

- Cultural Landscapes – Urban studies, including local and overseas examples
- Current New Zealand and overseas issues
Recommended Prior Learning
Students must have passed the Level 1 Geography external exam and achieved 13 credits in Level 1 Geography. If the student did not achieve this but wishes to take L2 geography, they will need Mr Henson's approval. If the student did not take Level 1 Geography but wishes to take Level 2 Geography, they need to get approval from Mr Henson.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Field Trip: Three-day trip to Mt Cook National Park, staying two nights at Unwin Lodge. Optional flight over the glaciers.

Geography is a course that is helpful in careers such as a town planner, meteorologist, geo-scientist, surveyor, parks ranger, pilot, conservator, resource manager, teacher, forester, etc.

Costs
The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2024, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
