This is an applied Mathematics course designed for students wanting to do trades, or study at Ara or any other tertiary vocational institution. This course offers flexibility and is sensitive to students' needs: the standards offered may be altered during the year to suit learning needs, and assessment opportunities may change to support student strengths. This course involves 4 internal standards totalling 14 credits.
Please note this course cannot be taken with any other L3 Mathematics course, for example, L3 Calculus or L3 Statistics.
This course is based on Level 8 of the New Zealand curriculum. It includes Level 3 Achievement Standards from Mathematics and Statistics. The course is made up of four internal achievement standards, accumulating up to 14 credits internally.
Endorsement is not available unless students enter an optional external, and gain 14 credits in both the internal and external assessments.

Please note that courses will go ahead only if student numbers, staffing, and timetabling allow it. Where a subject is oversubscribed, and there are insufficient numbers or resources to create an extra class, a ballot system may be applied.
Costs
KHS aims to deliver educational courses over and above that which is funded by the Ministry, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant may be requested, and we appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
