Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Dr C. Manuel.

Recommended Prior Learning

If interested, please see Mr Manuel, in the Senior Study Room in Tāwera for an application form.  An interview will also be required.

Gateway offers Year 12 and 13 students workplace learning across many industries and businesses in our local communities.  Students complete a career research and planning unit in Term 1 and then start their work placement.  Gateway students spend around 10 days at a work placement during the year and have individual learning plans which allow them to gain new skills and knowledge relevant to their chosen career.

Gateway operates through one block of the timetable, in 2024 there are 38 placements available. Students apply by completing an application form.   Shortlisted candidates will then be interviewed. Forms can be found and returned to Dr. Manuel in the Senior Study room in Tawera.

There is no course cost, all units offered are unit standards only so no course endorsement is possible and Gateway is not a University entrance subject.

Costs

The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2024, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
