Level 3 Mathematics with Statistics

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Alino

This course provides a sound basis in Statistical theory. The content consists of probability theory, data analysis, and organisation, probability distributions, time series and statistical estimation, computational methods, and mathematical modeling. 



Recommended Prior Learning

Students are required to have at least 14 Level 2 Mathematics credits, including 91269 (Systems of Equations) and/or 91267 (Probability), or HOF approval.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

A graphics calculator is essential. Calculators and computers are used extensively.

Pathway

Please note that students may do one or both of Level 3 Mathematics with Calculus and Level 3 Statistics and Mathematical Modeling. Those planning on doing any Mathematics, Science, Operations Research, or Economics at University are encouraged to take both.

There is now an extra advantage to taking both courses. If all offered credits are achieved in both courses then three courses can be gained, 14 credits for Level 3 Mathematics with Calculus, 14 credits for Level 3 Mathematics with Statistics, and 14 credits for Level 3 Mathematics.

Costs

The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2023, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
