Level 3 Art Design
Course Description

In Level 3 Art Design students can choose to specialise in Graphic Design or Illustration.
This course blends traditional art techniques with digital tools, focusing on graphic design principles, typography, layout, digital illustration, and character design. Students will learn industry-standard software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, the use of drawing tablets and DSLR cameras.
Students have the opportunity to take their work into a variety of final outcomes, including print, digital, laser cutting, and 3D printing.
Opportunities arise each year for students to publicly exhibit their work and enter competitions.

Students are required to develop their own ideas and themes over the year, in consultation with the teacher.
Students are encouraged to explore, research, and be influenced by established artist models, but create their own design style. Students learn further digital and hand-rendered techniques.
Recommended Prior Learning
To be accepted for this course, students must have earned 14 credits from Level 2 Art Design, or have received HOF approval
Assessment Information
Through practical projects and portfolio development, students will hone their skills in creating compelling visuals, culminating in a portfolio showcasing their creative skills and design development. The 14-credit exam is created during class time and is a cumulative display of their year’s work.Credit Information

Costs
The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2025, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
