Course Overview

What is taught in courses varies from year to year. This course could include:
Students follow a programme, but essentially create their own theme and developmental focus. This means they choose what they would like to draw, paint, print, or make.

Student work out a theme to base their work around for the year, and are encouraged to be innovative; study artist role models for inspiration and explore art-making that is relevant to their interests.

Experiment with Media: Dive into the exciting realms of painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art. Learn how to work with different materials and techniques to bring your ideas to life.

Explore Art History and Culture: Gain inspiration from studying diverse artists and art movements from around the world. Understand how culture, history, and personal experiences influence artistic expression.

Develop Your Creative Voice: Through guided projects and individual exploration, find your unique style and voice as an artist. Learn to communicate your thoughts and emotions visually.

Build a Strong Portfolio: Create a diverse and impressive portfolio showcasing your best work, perfect for further study or a career in the creative industries.

Please note that courses will go ahead only if student numbers, staffing, and timetabling allow it.  Where a subject is oversubscribed, and there are insufficient numbers or resources to create an extra class, a ballot system may be applied.  

Costs

The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2025, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
