Course Description

Welcome to Year 12 Music! 

This course follows naturally from Year 11 Music (L1MUSP) but has many more standards with increased levels of specificity, which allows students to tailor a course that suits their personal musical goals. 

Students taking this course will have priority over the itinerant instrument lesson slots, as taking an instrument lesson is vital to success with the performance standards.

Level 2 Music students choose which standards they wish to complete, this process is guided by their teacher to keep the workload realistic and achievable.

Recommended Prior Learning

To be accepted for this course, students must have earned a minimum of 14 credits from Level 1 Music, or have received HOD approval.

Pathway

Music builds skills such as collaboration, creative thinking, self-discipline, and perseverance that students can apply to all areas of their lives, as well as to other subjects that they study. Music can give students a lifelong creative outlet and indicates to future employers a well-rounded student with good interpersonal skills.

Please note that courses will go ahead only if student numbers, staffing, and timetabling allow it.  Where a subject is oversubscribed, and there are insufficient numbers or resources to create an extra class, a ballot system may be applied.  

Costs

The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2025, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
