Year 10 Drama 2 - Semester 2 Only

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr B. Morrison.

Drama is for everyone - not just those who want to be actors. Drama creates confident, well-rounded, creative learners who are able to relate well to others. This exciting course continues to develop students’ basic drama skills and can prepare keen actors for NCEA Level 1 Drama.  They learn the importance of reliability, commitment, and focus when working in the Arts.

This course is part of the General Curriculum and if chosen will be one of your PART B selections.

Course Overview

What is taught in courses varies from year to year. This course could include:
Team-building games, character studies, improvisation (theatresports), writing your own scenes and performances, script work, acting for film and television, a brief study of a theatre form (such as Clowning or Soap Opera), and works toward a possible class production.
We also have the opportunity to play with costumes and face paint and makeup to create a new character for a sci-fi TV series. Students develop their ability to communicate ideas using their voices, body movement, and space.

Recommended Prior Learning

This course is a continuation of the Semester 1 Drama course  

If you would like to take this course but have not completed the first-semester course, please request an exemption.

Pathway

Drama is an NCEA subject, offers scholarship at Level 3, and can lead to university or tertiary level studies.

Disclaimer

Please note that courses will go ahead only if student numbers, staffing, and timetabling allow it.  Where a subject is oversubscribed, and there are insufficient numbers or resources to create an extra class, a ballot system may be applied.  

Costs

The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2024, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
