Course Description

This course provides learning experiences that will continue to develop students’ knowledge of Sports Science.  

It will also help further their knowledge of the role of sport in society and promote an understanding of the need for a physically active and healthy lifestyle. 


Course Overview

What is taught in courses varies from year to year. This course could include:
Each module includes both theory and practical work. The following topics are covered:

• Evaluating prior physical activity to devise strategies for life-long wellbeing.

• Experiencing investigation and analysis of a current issue related to Physical Activity.

• Sports Psychology and the way we learn skills.

• Creating a training plan for a physical activity outcome.

• Biomechanical analysis.

Recommended Prior Learning

To be accepted for this course students must have earned 8 or more credits from the L2 Physical Education & Sports Science course, or have HOF approval.

Pathway

Physical Education and Health Education are helpful in careers such as: Nursing, event organisation, human resources, police, fire service, P.E. teaching, primary school teaching, recreation/fitness instructing, medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, armed services, research (fitness, health & recreation), managing community sports and recreation, professional sport or coaching, and sports psychology.

Costs

The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2023, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
