Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr E. Mead

This course is designed to carry on from the Level 2 Music course. Based on Performance and/or Composition standards, students can then choose from a range of Achievement Standards, which include arranging, the study of set music works, aural and score-reading external standards, or a Technology standard, to round out their course.

Recommended Prior Learning

To be accepted for this course students must have earned a minimum of 14 credits from Level 2 Music with passes in either solo performance and/or composition, or have received HOF approval.

Pathway

Music builds skills such as collaboration, creative thinking, self-discipline, and perseverance that students can apply to all areas of their lives, as well as to other subjects that they study. Music can give students a lifelong creative outlet and indicates to future employers a well-rounded student with good interpersonal skills.

Costs

The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2023, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
