L2PHYS

Level 2 Physics

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr T. Hill

Level 2 Physics is aimed at helping learners understand the physical world in which we live and have a context for the technologies that we use in daily life.

Topics include:

Atomic and Nuclear Physics - a model of the atom, radioactivity, and nuclear reactions.

Electricity and Electromagnetism - Static electricity, DC electricity, and electromagnetism.

Mechanics - Newton’s Laws of Motion, force, motion, momentum, and energy.

Physics Investigation – conduct an experiment that investigates a non-linear physics relationship.

Physics relevant to a selected context - investigate how physics applies to a real-world context.

Recommended Prior Learning

To be accepted for this course students must have earned 14 or more Level 1 Science credits, including the SCI 1.1 Mechanics, the MAS 1.7 Right-angled Triangles internal & the MAS 1.2 Algebra internal, or HOF/TIC (Head of Faculty/Teacher in Charge) approval.

Costs

The Board of Trustees has again asked to opt into the Ministry of Education donation scheme. Doing so resulted in the ability to waive student fee donations. Kaiapoi High School aims to deliver quality educational courses over and above those that which is funded by the Ministry. It is likely the School will opt into the donation scheme for 2023, however parental contribution for the costs of trips and activities where participation is optional, and/or components not covered by the Government grant, may be requested. We appreciate the financial support our families make to the School.
